Help with knee pain

I am having some pain around this area:

and sometimes a bit above (to the left of the knee in my left leg).

I’ve had this pain before, but I’ve switched shoes, stopped swimming breaststroke and done some strengthening and stuff like that and it has almost gone away. Rarely it comes back during runs (but goes away after a few minutes), and after them (but goes away in the morning). Again this happens very rarely.

On wednsday of last week I did an interval run (800s 400s and 200s) with my racing shoes since I have a big race coming up this friday. The problem is that the day after, that area was hurting. Now a few days later it’s very very mild, and I guess I am a bit paranoid because of the big race, but I want it to go away.

Also yesterday during swim I pushed off the wall and I got this sharp pain below the kneecap (not under, below). I’m pretty sure this is unrelated as I’m growing (i’m 15) and I get this pain from time to time.

Anyway what can I do to make the pain go away (the pain in the area of the pic). Some physiotherapist told me to stretch, but I don’t know what stretches she was talking about (she was like stretch this muscle and that muscle with long names =)

Thanks

i really need help with this

Sounds like tendonitis. My first guess would be the IT band, but I usually get that on the outside of the knee, not the inside. Obvious causes would be pushing too big a gear on the bike, saddle too low, running on hard surfaces, shoes that are not a match for you, and lots of other causes.

I am 48 so this would be a big deal for me. You are 15. Fix the cause of the problem, get one good night of sleep, and move on.

I have occasional pain the same spot. Your young I would just cast it off as growing pains. If I remember right that is one of the “expansion” points in your bones, your probably getting taller.

As for me. After running in high school and playing ice hockey through college, I’ve all but given up on making the pain in my knees go away. I’ve strained my MCL (both knees) more times that I can count on 1 hand, gave up ice hockey for this reason (kinda, for now).
