I have some tubies with valves that are too short for my rims. I bought extensions not knowing that the tubies I have don’t have removable cores. I thought all tubies have removable valve cores?
Am I doing something wrong?

There are two type of valve extenders: ones that actually replace/extend the valve mechanism (which is what you have) and slip-on tubes that simply make the existing valve long enough to poke through the rime and therefore accessible to a pump.
I don’t know about valves where the mechanism isn’t removable, but if that is the case with yours, you simply need the (cheaper) extensions that screw onto your existing valve (perhaps using teflon tape to seal them to the existing valve). You leave your valve screwed open and let the internal air pressure keep it closed. Your pump just pushes air through the extension tube into the existing valve.

This is what I need right?

Thanks. I’ll order a pair as soon as they come in stock.
Yes. Make sure you uncrew the presta valve all the way and put a tiny bend in it with pliers so it doesn’t thread itself shut. Also be sure to use teflon tape as sometimes the higher pressures cause the extender to leak.
Take it from me since I did several days worth of trial and error and testing. Get tubes with removeable valve cores and get Vittoria Extenders (you can choose 20mm or 40mm I think). Very easy solution and very reliable. No phantom leaking or other issues. Those crappy “extenders” from Zipp or other companies are just that - crap.
Buy the Topeak valve extender: http://www.topeak.com/products/Floor-Pumps/PrestaValveExtenderXL
It’s the best valve extender ever. You only need one, because it doesn’t stay attached to the valve: you simply screw it on when you need to inflate/deflate the tire, and remove it when you’re done. And just think of all those milliwatts you’ll save by not having a valve stick out into the wind ![]()
topeaks dont work for really deep rims- you cant get them back on if the valve disappears inside your 808 or 1080…
