Race tomorrow and cant get my tubular tire to take air. Any way to pop open that valve inside the stem without screwing it up?? Luckily this is just a sprint race i am doing more for fun and can use my training wheel. Tried poking a toothpick down the stem, but still will not pop open when airing up. Thanks - Dan
I assume you are using a valve extender with the valve in the original location? Can you remove the extender? You may be able to open the valve by removing the extender and then continue spinning it. May be able to use the extender backwards in the same manner.
Good luck
Take the extender off, fix the valve, put the extender back on.
If it is that damn Zipp type valve extender and your tire already has a decent amount of pressure in it (say 100 psi), often, you can’t put any more in as the presta valve is stuck. Get a thin allen key and put it down the extension, bleeding out some air, then try to reinflate - should work now.
Next, buy one of the valve extenders that has a presta valve built in to prevent this problem again and give a more accurate pressure reading. Problem Solvers and Topeak make a nice one.
thanks guys - got it fixed.
