sorry for your loss. Hope things work out between you and your insurance company as well.

thanks…no insurance…it would cost 1500 to insure them
.

ANY item that is in your home IS covered by your Homeowners policy. Period. Call your agent. Hope that helps…sorry for your loss. I know your pain. Good luck

Sorry for the loss - that looks like an BC - Canadian phone number - did home owners insurance 6 months ago in Vancouver and you should be covered provided you have home owners - my investigations revealed it is not necessary to take out a separate bike policy in Canada however depending on policy there may be maximum claims for certain items - and these items should be specified…perhaps notify local bike shops and TriBC (if it is a BC number) or equivalent.

To get full coverage of bikes in B.C. you have to purchase more insurance to cover them…in the past basic home insurance did cover them, but they now make you pay on top of that based on how much the bikes are worth…that being said it doesn’t really matter anyway as we did not have home insurance…we are renting…I know, not smart

Also try all the second hand sporting stores in your area (SportJunkies etc.) and the pawn shops. But you need to do it as quickly as possible. Hopefully you have some ID engraved on the bike (like your BCDL#). Otherwise you’ll never recover it. Even if you find it at a shop, you still need to prove it’s yours to the police (might try pictures, receipts, etc.). When you go to the shop, take a cell phone with you - if you do spot it, call the police immediately.

thanks for your suggestions…we live in a small town, so I highly doubt the bikes are still here, so I’m spreading the word around b.c. and alberta, along with faxing pawn shops and bike stores…hopefully they will pop up, though I think they will be stripped and the components will be sold.

I’m from British Columbia, so I may be able to offer you a few suggestions in addition to the above:

  1. go to the Tri BC website (classified section; and comments section), and post a description of your bikes.

  2. also go to the Cycling BC website (classified section; and comments section), and do the same.

As the market is limited for your type of bikes (and the cycling/triathlon community is small), I would not be surprised if you have some luck.

Your ideas of faxing the bike shops and contacting the police are also great (as well as the advice you received regarding checking the pawn shops). You may also want to consider contacting local triathlon and cycling clubs.

I feel for you, and good luck!

Stephen

I know of a few triathletes whom had there tri-bikes stolen and everyone of them have gotten them back within 3-5 months. They may have been just lucky… but, the way each and every one got them back were from bike shop owners (AND their staff/employees!). So, go to your LBS AND those in the surrounding area… tell them what your looking for… and follow up every couple of weeks. You might be surprised where they show up.

Those bikes are too unusual not to be noticed by a bike shop owner. I think they will show up because they were probably stolen by common thieves. However, if you had been rob at a triathlon - then, your chances would be less likely of getting them back.

If they try and sell them with the frame I will find them, but if they are smart and strip the bike and just sell the parts, it will be hard for me to track them down…not many people in canada are riding the zero gravity and my road bike with the missing water bottle braze on, will definitely stand out. Thanks for your suggestions and positive feedback
