I have a P3. I took the rear bar end shifter apart cleaned it, replaced the cable and put it back together. I have worked all day trying to get it to shift correctly. I can’t even get close. It doesn’t seem to click correctly. I have it all the way on index shifting but it doesn’t seem to have all 9 clicks (9 speed), it is jumping all over the place but I’m doing the adjustment like I always do. Small chainring smallest cog in back the pullies are directly under the cog, Then I start shifting and adjusting with barrel adjuster. Can you think of anything I might be forgetting? I’m worried. I leave tomorrow and race Sat and Sunday
I’m assuming DA Bar end shifters. Did you install the lever boss cover (i.e. first piece of the shifter mechanism) correctly? The projection has to be set in the down position.
Also if you had all nine “clicks” before you installed the cable. You could have crossed your cables within the downtube when you installed the new one.
you should have 8 clicks for 9 speed. make sure you get the 8 clicks with the cable disconnected. If you do, I would go
Big ring - small cog, fully tighten barrel adjuster (so you can add more tension to tune).
pull cable tight (just enough for a little tension, not really tight) and
fix (very important, make sure you have the cable on the correct side of the bolt, if it is not the pull will be different and it will not be able to be dialed in). This is different depending upon the deraileur, (my XT 9-speed MTB is opposite from my Ultegra 9-speed Road bike). If you are unsure check out parktools.com under the maintenance section for verification. I screwed with this for hours on my MTB until I checked again on the cable fixing position.
good luck.
