I’m going for a new tt bike.
Somehow I happen to have an upportunity to get these at the same price :
Cervelo p2c 2009 and a Cannondale Slice 2008 (both NEW)
What’s your minded thoughts about this? obviously the slice price is originally higher, but thats put aside, whats the better frameset? whats more aerodynamic? whats more comfortable?
What to choose?
The geometry of the slice is higher and not as long, although the frame sizes don’t match up exactly. I fit best on a 56 P2 and a 58 Slice. IMO the Slice is specifically targeted toward those with longer legs and shorter torsos, whereas the P2 is designed around more of an average build. As you have no doubt figured out, spacers and stems can overcome a lot of the sizing issues if you want to do it that way.
There seem to be more P2s out there and more for sale as used bikes and framesets, so you might be in better shape if you buy it and it doesn’t work.
I think the slice wins on cool-factor, but that’s a personal preference. Cervelo is a good company, and I ride one as a road bike (R3). My sense is that the Slice was lighter, but I didn’t actually weight the two to compare.
With all due respect to the aero geeks, I doubt that for most riders there is any real aero difference between these two frames. If the pricing is sort of same then I would get the one that fits you best because a good, comfortable position equals fast.
Its funny to are writing this because I was just comparing the two at Contie’s last week. My very unscientific eye ball test perfers the PC3 design. The downtube appeared narrower on the cervelo. Also, I think the headtube is a bit narrower. I found the reverse seat post on the slice to look a bit odd. Additionally, the PC3 has horizontal drops so you can get the rear wheel super close to the seat tube (of course the designers of the Look 596 may beg to differ).
Get the one that fits you the best; neither one will slow you down. I bought a P2C last year because it’s a good value, even at full retail. It’s very close to the P3C in design, and I was especially struck by how closely it resembled a Walser, in profile.
So by far no one has a concrete answer? No one has technical info whats the better frame? as you can tell me p3c is better than p2c, cant you tell me p2c is better than slice? or otherwise? Thank you all it has been helpful although im not compeltely satisfied
Due to the fact that the consumers are primary having to rely on the manufactures claims of these products and not from any legitimate independent testing source we are left with anadoltal information that will never be definitive in nature. I agree with the post that said “get the one that fits you best”. Tim
Go based on your fit on the bike. Everyone has a different body. Some guys/gals here prefer Cervelo, while others like myself prefer Cannondale. It’s all what allows you to get the most aero AND be most comfortable.
the slice looks reasonably well thought out aerodynamically.
nothing obviously retarded about it.
I’ve only seen one in a very quick ride-through in the parking lot of a local TT, but I remember thinking ‘damn, that’s a nice-looking bike–with a Big Fat Head tube.’.
Maybe I got a bad look at it, but that kinda stuck out.
