here’s the problem. The part of the wheel where you put the cassette on doesn’t move any more and is acting like a fixed back wheel. is my wheel ruined or can it be another thing that can be fixed. (i’m doing a IM distance race in 2 weeks and don’t have the money to buy a new one. aaaaaaahhhhh!!!).
What brand of disc is it? Sounds as if either your freehub or hub has seized up. I haven’t worked on discs before, but plenty of standard wheels. I’d take it to your local LBS. If you hub just needs adjusting or the freehub just needs lube, it could be pretty cheap ($10-$20). If you need a freehub, it’s more expensive but not THAT much more (hopefully no more than $50). I wouldn’t put a perfectly good disc up for sale yet until you find out it can fixed (no pun intended) for cheap. Good luck!
Did you recently change cassettes? I forgot the spacer for my 10sp cassette once and that caused basically the same problem. My shop laughed at me as usual.
maybe it is. i was going to paint it pink and turn it into a single speed (55x11), but didn’t have the money. If they can’t fix it for cheap, i’ll do it.
so what will i need to do?
1 remove FD+RD
2 get a “turn yr 10speed into a 1speed spacer kit” ?? (which one??)
3 get a new chain
4…?
