“For those who have successfully quit eating sugar, any tips?”
My suggestion is to cut only to “sugar in natural sources”… ie: raisins, oranges, etc. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a treat now and then, but you won’t have “a weakness” (ie: temptation).
I’ve told clients when they’ve been absolutely stuck in their cut-down period, to have FROZEN BLUEBERRIES (in the bag) in the freezer. When the cravings come, pop a few in your mouth. They are good for you and the cravings subside soon.
The problem is that the human body seems to love sugars (in general - there are some people who don’t). Our foods are filled with so many sugars… Read the labels to see all the hidden high fructose corn syrup, maltodextrin, blah blah…
Sugars beget sugar cravings. If I really wanted to do a study I could find out all the details (but I’m occupied now). I know that there’s a theory about ‘bad bacteria’ in our gut which feeds on sugars and makes us crave it. (again, too much to talk about here). Some people are more susceptable than others.
Yes, cold turkey helps. I don’t recommend the “Diet Soda” route - you really aren’t fooling your body.
Trust me and ALL THE CLIENTS I have taken off their sugars. You will feel awesome and with only a minimal of detoxing ![]()
I LOVE chocolate for an example. I LOVE sugary things. I used to buy frosting and eat the container… but when I eat better I just don’t get the cravings… and when I am NOT BORED I don’t get the cravings either.
Try the blueberry method and tell us what happens… (and add lots of water for detox… maybe a massage also, for detox)
