Help me pick my shorts/bibs

So, i’m ready to buy some shorts for races and bibs for training.

I am considering the following: Craft Tri Race Short Craft Tri Training Short DeSoto Power Tri Short DeSoto Bibbed Power Tri Short

I hear people always say to train like you race. So, do i get the DeSoto Bibbed Power Tri for training, and switch to the DeSoto Power Tri Short for races…?

My ‘A’ race that everything is going to be revolving around this year is IMFL. This will be my first IM distance race.

Paul…

Well, I don’t own any of the Craft cycling or tri apparel but I do own a few base and second layer piece from them. I cannot say enough about the quality of this stuff, super well made, great fabrics, fits true to sizes, etc. My next cycling and tri clothing will definitely come from Craft.

I just bought Craft training shorts and top…VERY high quality…i do like the compression fabric in DeSoto shorts…

PH,

I too own some Craft base layers. It was really worth spending money on those. The reason i’m considering the DeSoto is because of the Power Lycra feature. At this point, i still am trying to gather as much info as i can before making the decision.

Paul

I don’t own any Craft products.
I have Desoto tri and power tri shorts. Great products and customer service at Desoto is the best in the business. Make sure your Power-Tri shorts fit well so they maintain compression. Contact Desoto for fit info if you are not sure.

Get Assos Mille’s. You won’t be sorry. Absolute best.

Tom,

That’s some serious coin there in those Assos shorts. Besides, can you run in those shorts…?

p/s: Whatever happened to your Superbibs/Supershorts review…?

Paul

Seconding Toms post.

Anything made my Assos is simply amazing. Nothing compares.

I’d use good bibs for training, and then race specific tri stuff for racing. horses for courses, and whatnot.

I like Castelli and Craft. Both topnotch, and expensive. But worth it. For me, it’s a draw between the two. Castelli seems to be more common, and easier to find locally. I’ve only been able to find Craft cycling stuff at the Craft website.

Others mentioned the Assos mille (or whatever it’s called) bib. Man, I’d love to try those, but they are hugely expensive.

You are going to do IM in bibs? You are changing? What are the pads like on the Milles

I highly recommend DeSoto. Service is great and I like the little pockets. I had a conversation with Emilio about the bibs and the thickness of the pad and he said that it was designed to be worn comfortably for 112 miles. I have had no complaints about performance. I also have a pair of Performance Elite bibs, IMO you can’t beat it for the price.

DeSoto is also mucho less expensive than Craft (or Assos).

I use the DeSoto Power Tri Short for all my training rides, some runs, bike races, duathlons and longer triathlon (for olympic and shorter I use the DeSotoTri Brief).
This are great shorts. I really like the new ones with pockets where you can stuff in bars and gels (and also money and key in training)

Felix

Monk,

The bibs i was referring to has a “tri” specific thickness. Check out the TriSports.com website.

BTW, I think i have an explanation as to why your feet got messed up. Remember the pic you posted showing the socks that you were going to wear for the race…? You had a “frown face” on the sock. You jinxed yourself…!
