Help me find a bike that fits ( and spend money)

I don’t mean to trump the recent post about “Help me pick my bike,” but am looking for some input from those wiser than me ( and trying to keep the economy from going into recession). I recently had some bike fit work done, and am now trying to take the results and put them to work. The fitting was done on a Serotta Size Cycle, and the fitter is not big into tri-sales. There is one FIST fitter in my city, but for a number of reasons I do not patronize this shop (not wanting to break forum rules, we won’t delve into details).

So I am armed with all of this information, but not exactly sure what to do with it. And the wife is cool with me buying a new bike, but I can’t second mortgage the house for one. FWIW, I currently ride a 2001 Cervelo One with a 55 top tube and a 60 stem (yes, 60) with zero offset. Bars are the Vision Tech Base Bar and Hed Clip Lite S-Bend extensions. Saddle is Arione (road version). Speedplay pedals.

The numbers from the fitting are below (which I understand are “optimal” for me), but how do I know which are the most critical? Which can I “work around?” Which numbers should I try to match exactly with a new frame?

Seat tube angle 78

Seat tip even with BB

Seat top above handlebar top 11.5 (it’s lower now as the measurements were taken before the current bar set up)

Top of saddle to center of BB 77.5 cm

seat tube (center to center) 56

Top tube 53

BB to what looks like center of elbow pad 77.8

Any help is appreciated, and any thoughts on frames which may fit are welcome (and encouraged). So please help me spend my money. Thanks in advance.

This isn’t the best way to fit a bike, but a number of makers publish their measurements/geometry. You can sort of general ballpark from this info, but you’re way further ahead to go to the fitter in person.

Here’s an example of a Cervelo P2K. Look and the geometry specs and try to work from there.

Thanks Tibbsy - a dumb question on my part. I should have known the answer. Not sure I have enough cows for it, however

Lamar,

I went through this process a little while ago.

What ended up happeing was I went to the fitter armed with geometries of bikes I was thinking about. We set up the size cycle and spinscan to each geometry and noted its overall effect on the performance on the scan. It seemed like a very effective process of elimination. I did mine at signature cycles in ny. good luck enjoy your search.

CG -

thanks for the response. I know this isn’t ideal, but I am trying to arm myself with some information in order to ensure that I don’t get “taken” at a shop and get sols whatever the shop has in inventory (ie they were unable to otherwise sell something, and I have SUCKER written on my forehead). Not necessarily find what is “ideal” without going in a shop - although that wouldn’t be horrible - but have a better understanding so that I can ask the proper questions when I do go. For instance, if a guy tells me to buy a bike with a 44 top tube because the bike has the proper bb clearance for me (now this is excessive, obviously, but just to show a point), is one of those more important than the other?

Thanks again for any input
