so all of a sudden developed this pain in the top of the tibia (most likely overuse from running). x-rays clear, injection did nothing. that’s not the problem, however.
all of a sudden developed this weird knee pain where it’s hard to even walk. It was better this morning, so went on a 10 mile run, at mile 7 the pain was really awful (thinking that the pain is a fluke I kept going). Here is the kicker, at mile 9 the pain was gone. I am at a loss. any ideas?
I got something similar. I heard that leg raises will fix it. 3 weeks of those and no fix. So it’s not a hip issue like I was told it was. I also thought it might be a tight it band. But no dice. It’s hard to diagnose. I’ve dealt with a number of top runners and 2 sports doctors, no real solid suggestions yet.
i know. its def not idb, neither is it knee related.
I think it’s one of those idiosyncracies that sometimes just appear.
knee raises/lifts do nothing.
with a marathon in 2 weeks shooting for my best time I am a tad bummed out to say the least
Does your knee sometimes click when going upstairs after a run?
Google “patellofemoral syndrome.”
Cortisone injection didn’t do anything?
You probably have weak glutes, which means your IT band has issues, which results in the patellar tendon issues
I’m not a doc but I play one on TV and ST ![]()
No clicking. My friend is an orthopedist, hes not really sure either

It can take awhile to fix weak glutes. I’ve posted hip exercises before - try some of those. You really have to target the glute medius.
Where exactly is the pain? Is it in a specific spot that you could put a finger on or is it more radiating? What kind of pain is it and at what point during the running stride does it occur?
pain is rather sharp. around the knee. can’t pinpoint.
the thing is, it went away after 9 miles. why???
Sounds an awful lot like PTFS which I still fight when I get lazy with my rehab exercises. Just like with my shoulder I do them 3x a week to keep the demons at bay. My glutes, ITB and quads were having a tug of war b/c of horrible muscle imbalances. I will say since I stopped running and went to cycling only I have much less trouble.

I’m sure. I’ve been full on training for NYC marathon, hardly been on a bike/pool in the past 2 months, Im sure it’s a contributing factor.
I’ll get on rehab exercises. thanks
