This happened so fast, I am not quite sure what happened. One minute I am doing a warmup before I reach my regular bike track, and the next I know, the rear wheel is out of the rear drop outs (underneath them) wedged canted sideways, locked up, the tire is worn through (about a two inch patch, like a divot) and of course the tube is worn through. Happily no crash but a long walk home.
I don’t know if this was preceded by a flat or what happened. I suppose (1) the skewer could have been loose, (2) then a flat made it jump out, and (3) the lock up caused it to wear through (but it was already flat from (1)) ? I am feeling a bit unsettled.
After considering further, I think the skewer may have been loosened on the drive side by friction when removing the bike from the Computrainer–then I went over an undulation severe enough to make it jump out of the rear drops outs, it was retained by the chain, but wedged in the wheelwell, locked in place, and wore down while stopping until the tire and tube were destroyed by the road.
Thank you guys for your thoughts.
Something to think about–check your skewer after removing from the CT.
