After Muskoka I didn’t really take ANY time off at all and was back training the next day to be ready for Peterborough. I don’t know what I did but my right “Bottom of hamstring/top of calf” is quite sore. I did a 2 hour bike and 65 min run last Sunday and could barely walk the next day. I took Monday and Tuesday off and then just did a 90 min bike workout on the trainer yesterday. My walking is now fine but it seems to a lagging thing, I can always feel it and know that if I do a run workout that it’ll get bad again. It only seems to hurt when my leg is completely bent or from the pounding from a foot strike in running and jumping.
I have the same pain and have no idea what it is… my thought is hamstring. I did mine during the white lake half… my hamstrings (odd, I know) got very tight on the bike (painfully tight) and reduced my run to a hobble and walk. Since, then I have dealt with the same pain you have described. I am generally sore after sitting a while and when I first get up in the morning as well as during harder efforts on the bike or run. It is also painful when I completely squat down so my hamstring is touching my calf…
If any one has any thoughts on this that would be great… so far I don’t think it warrants a trip to the doctor, but it is nagging to say the least.
It’s possible your seat is too high! Seriously. If it’s too low you’ll likely end up with patellar tendonitis problems, too high and you get the reverse. Other than stretching with a slightly bent knee, try this hamstring stretch. Sit in an office chair with arms, rotate yourself about 45 degrees to the side, then put your leg up and rest it on the armrest, with the rough center of your hamstring on the rest. Works wonders for tight hammies, which could easily be the cause of your problem.
