I have a 2006 QR Tequilo with the FSA Gossamer crankset, and am looking at upgrading to either a DA 7800 (53/39T) w/ a ceramic BB, or the FSA K-Force Light (52/38T).
What are your thoughts of each one, and what would you go with?

the sub $200 Zipp 300 when it comes up on bonktown/chainlove
or ebay
=)
.
How worried about matching are you? On average the actual weight of SRAM Force is about 10 grams more than DA 7800. The SRAM Force is a good $150 less and if you insist on having a ceramic BB, you can just get the Sram Red bb which comes standard with a ceramic bb.
But between your two choices I would go with the 7800.
Between those two choices, the DA will definitely shift better and stand up to more abuse over time.
Nice call on the weight, Jack.
To the OP, forgive me for hijacking the thread.
Jack, do you ever worry about the future availability of ISIS bottom brackets?
The FSA Gossamer is a nice crankset and relatively stiff. You will save some weight upgrading to either of those other choices but I doubt you will be any faster.
However, if you are being patriotic and trying to stimulate the economy, I would go with the DA crank…=)
I definately want to stimulate the economy, but if my crankset is better than I thought it was, than I may just have to find a different way to go about it.
i am with you !
never mix shimano drivetrain if you want great shifting
What wesc said…
I don’t understand why you would want to upgrade the crankset on that bike. Are there other issues? (i.e. replacing components?)
I run a Gossamer crankset with Shimano DA TT rings on my TTX. It works great. If it’s good enough for Cancellara to use on his road bike it’s certainly stiff enough for me.
