HELP: Marathon in 5 weeks & I need new shoes

Nike skylons if possible: Anyone have any new size 10s hanging around? C’mon, help a brother out.

I don’t want to run in what I have now: I love my skylons (been through 4 pair) but what I have now has 300 miles and they don’t make them anymore … I thought I would use my new NB 833s but after a 12-miler last week they have fallen out of favor for a 26-miler.

Sooo … It’s between:

  1. Nike Hayward or 40/30: I tried on the Haywards 6 months ago and they felt nice, similar to skylons, and I was told they sort of ‘replaced’ the Skylons: Right? Are they pretty light? (10 oz. not 12) How about the 40/30s?

  2. ASICS gel Landreth or DS trainers

Because I am looking for something right in between my current everyday trainer (ASICS GT 2100: Nice, comfy, too heavy) and my new “almost flats” gel Speedstars (not quite substantial enough for 26 miles)

  1. NB 901: Are they a bit more substantial than 833s? My only other NBs - NB 754 - were a bit to heavy to race in …

Any ideas?

I like the Landreths - but, check out some Saucony type-As. I’ve run 2 marathons in them with no issues. VERY light and durable.

Thanks: Same size in Saucony as ASICS?

Yes, I wear the same size Kayano, DS trainer and type-A
.

What about Brooks T4 or Asics Gel Magic racer. I have the latter and have done 2 HIM on them and my feet were not an issue, at all.

T4 is a great shoe, but for what you have said, it is not enough. Looking at the 901 (soon to be 902), hayward, etc…The Hayward would be your best bet on finding a shoe similar to the skylon. Buy a pair, run in them, you’re all set. Get a few miles to make sure they won’t kill you and to shape the insole. Or just take out your old insole and put it in your haywards. Either or, those would be closest to the skylons.

The Nike Skylons are my all time favorite training shoe! Its all about fit and ride, right? The replacement Nike Hayward seems to soft to me, however you may like that.

I was able to find a couple of pairs of Skylons at Run-N-Fun in Minnesota. They are on clearance there, so try giving them a call, maybe they can ship you some, the number is:*** (651) 290-2747. ***

Good luck!

these guys are pretty reliable and appear to have a spring/summer 2004 UK9/US10 pair in stock.

call them, they might post (or get them to post to someone you know in the UK and get them to forward)
