Fellow southern california riders. I need a little help heading North into Orange Co. I am riding in the morning from San Diego to Tesoro creek road. I have been up through Pendleton a few times but have never been North of there.
- What internet sites do you trust\use for cycling routes you have not been on.
- Any suggested routes I should take?
Again–I can get from Coronado to Pendleton but I have never been further North and want a safe route into Rancho Santa Margarita.
Here’s my route from Long Beach to SD. You should be able to figure it out from this: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ca/long-beach/406124726081791939

I live in San Clemente and ride up that way all the time.
Once you exit Pendleton, you’ll be on “old hwy 101” and be riding basically along past the nuke plant. Just before you reach where that road crosses over the freeway, you’ll need to cross over to the west side of the road and pass through the fence right by Trestles. Continue north up the Trestles path and you’ll come out at Cristianitos Road. Take a left onto Ave. Del Presidente and follow the bike route signs through San Clemente.
You’ll keep heading north and be back on PCH through Capo Beach. Once you reach Doheny State Park, stay on Camino Capistrano all the way until you reach Avery Pkwy. Riding through San Juan Cap. is a little funky. There’s another route, but there are many turns and staying on Cam. Cap. will be easier.
Go all the way to Avery Pkwy. in Mission Viejo and then turn right crossing under the fwy. Chuck a left on Marguerite and follow that to Crown Valley. Right on CV and take that to Antonio Pkwy. Left on AP and follow that all the way to RSM.
Good luck!
Thank you. I am leaving in a half-hour.
