HELP...Guru Crono Owner..Is it true Ergomo not compatible? How about SRM?

Hi People,

I am looking into the purchase of a power meter and have read on the
internet that due to the derailleur cables running through the bottom
bracket ( front and back) the Ergomo is not compatible.

Is that an issue with the SRM as well?

Is my only real power option a power tap?

Responses from people with actual experiences are greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I have a Guru Crono with an Ergomo installed. It wasn’t a problem.

The SRM will work without a problem, we’ve done it.

As for an Ergomo, I know that they have modified the BB a little to accommodate it better. Guru bikes typically use a Ti sleeve to help the cables glide over it instead of the BB shell itself. I don’t recall what the exact change they made is but it’s something they do if you tell them that you plan on installing an Ergomo. No idea if it is something that you can do afterwards or not. I would just call Guru to see what they say.

Darrell,

I guess I am calling Canada Monday am, eh. I always seem to get into these projects from hell.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I got it to work, but it was tricky.
You have to run your cables above the BB, not under it which can be tough.

It’s important to understand what might not work (or work well). Your shifting can be impacted because the size of the Ergomo BB makes it challenging. So, SRM will clearly work fine. If it helps I have an extremely detailed write up that my friend did on the challenges of getting an Ergomo to work well on a Guru Crono. He was never successful in getting his to work as well as he liked. Again, keep in mind that they Ergomo worked fine but his shifting did not. Was his shifting completely off? No. He experienced slight shifting problems but it was irritating enough to sell the Ergomo.

Also, before he sold it, both of us sat down with Gita and Ergomo (for other reasons) and they told us they do NOT recommend an Ergomo on a Crono and could NOT guarantee the bike would shift properly. Does that mean some people won’t get it to work? Clearly not. Just consider what others have experienced and keep in mind what the distributor supporting the product and the manufacturer told us.

Thanks, Chris

If you want an answer this weekend give the guys at Jack and Adams in Texas a call. I know that they are a pretty big Guru dealer and are the ones that mentioned this to me. They will probably be able to give you a little more insight before Monday.

Darrell,

WOW, those guys are the best. Makes me wish I lived in TX. I spoke with David that guy is terrific!!!

Sounds like I might be able to get this to work just fine. He said it is critical to get the cables to run over the top of the BB. People run into troubles when they run them below it puts osme upward pressure on the BB and can mess with shifting. Also, if the cables ran underneath the shell it is important if you run them over the ergomo that you ned to readjust the shifting or that will be a nightmare.

Anway, I guess I have a lil work to do tomorrow.

Thank you to everyone for their advice and suggestions. Please feel free to keep posting anything you may have it is all greatly appreciated.

Good Morning All. After many calls in the spring regarding this issue, we have developed a retrofit to accommodate Ergomo BBs. some of you have posted that you are running the cables ABOVE the BB. Please let me remind you all that you cannot run cables above the BB as it acts like a pulley otherwise the frame does and you are putting unnecessary stress on the junction of the seat tube and down tube. Please follow these instructions!

We will be offering Ergomo as an option on our bikes for 2008 and will be doing the retrofit for all bikes with which the unit is sold. If you are planning on getting an Ergomo system at a later date, you must specify it so that we may produce the frame with the retrofit, or you will not be able to install it! You could always send the frame back for the retrofit, but as some have discovered, it is not an inexpensive option.
