HELP! Gold Standard for Pedometers?

I’m starting a walking program for the employees at my work and wanted to know who makes the best pedometer in the business? Also, will the pedometer work when performing other cardiovascular exercises like cycling, inline staking or using the indoor elliptical trainer?

Pedometer only counts strides, every time it is jogged it counts a step and then it multiplies that by an average stride length.

Won’t work for the other stuff.

Thanks, thats what I thought. Any suggestions on who makes the best pedometer?

I’d cast my vote for the Garmin 201 or the newer Garmin 30 with integrated heart rate monitor.

I think the era of mechnical pedometers has pretty much drawn to a close. The GPS based units are more accurate and, I think, easier to use once you get the hang of it.

When you add in the incredible functionality of resources like motionbased.com, where you can uplaod your data and see maps, telemetry, etc. etc. that adds a lot of value, utility, novelty and entertainment to the equipment.

In my view those are the things that keep you exercising.

I think you ocan get a free pedometer from McDonalds in their adult happy meal.

Tom, I totally agree but I need to buy 100-200 units and need to keep the cost under $35.00.

Yes, but in the classic “dumbing down” for mass consumption, they re-named them “stepometers”.

Tom…where can I get info on the Garmin 30?..I went to their website and didn’t find anything…Thanks
.

i think he meant Garmin 301, now replaced by the 305.

An advantage of a pedometer is for folks whom do a lot of indoor walking, in an office or otherwise…
