The DA bb has a black plastic sleeve that covers the bearing. Is this a dust cover that remains in place and the crankarm is installed over it, or is it to protect the bearing during shipping and is removed before crankarm installation?
Based on the fact that the sleeve in image in the following link (http://bike.shimano.com/catalog/global/popup_large_img.jsp?CONTENT<>cnt_id=10134198673244045&PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524441769081&FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374302034961&ASSORTMENT<>ast_id=1408474395181202&bmUID=1117752238795) includes o-rings to prevent the weather from playing havoc with the spindle, my guess is yes. Also, Shimano’s tech tip for Hollowtech II crankset assembly: http://bike.shimano.com/publish/content/cycle/sac/us/en/technical_service/tech_tips/road_tech_tips.MainContent.0002.File.tmp/Hollowtech%202%20Installation.pdf appears to show the plastic sleeve included as part of the installationof the bb assembly. I am using FSA’s K-Force crank with Mega Exo bottom bracket and it includes the plastic tube when installed!
Stays on.
Ummm…Tom, are those dust covers available separately?
Just a little bumpy-pooh.
