Help anybody know a good source for replacing a left crankarm?

Hello there,

I stripped out the pedal threads on my 180mm old-style (tapered bb) crankset last year and can’t find a place to replace it. I don’t want to go to splined bottom brackets, but my choices are pretty limited.

Anybody know a parts supplier who might have an old 7410 left dura ace 180mm arm laying around. I know that’s a lot to ask, but why not ask?

you might want to take it to a machine shop and see what it would cost to put a helicoil in it. Basically, this is drilling a bigger hole in it and replacing the threads with a helicoil( a spring like thing that replaces threads). A lot of things use these if strength is needed when threading aluminium.

Bob,

I’ve never heard of such a thing, but its worth a try. Thanks.

Agreed,

Most bike shops can get the proper helicoil from some vendor, Wheels Manufactering makes some. I’ve got them in all of my Tandem’s crankarms because I was too cheap to buy a set of tandem specific cranks so I used some old cranksets to make the crossovers, no problems. Many of the bolts on your Shimano derailleurs are helicoiled.

Find a shop that has done it, and do it.

cdw,

Helicoil, definitely the way to go in this case.

Hi, friend has a complete set of 180mm DA cranks that are in new condition he would like to get rid of, cheap. Interested?
