On my ride Monday morning, I averaged 17.2 mph. This morning, I averaged 16.1 mph. Same exact bike; however, I did take it to the shop during the week. What could they have done to it to make it so much slower?
.
diff day, diff weather, maybe diff roads, you were feeling diff, ate something new, diff time of day, didnt care as much today, they did something to your bike, you wore something baggy… any of those come into play?
Put some Tufo tires on?
Throw away your computer and get one without average speed. It is really pretty useless, even counter-productive. It discourages proper warm-up/ cool-down and keeps you out of the hills.

Well does that stuff matter that much? The course today had a bit more climbing, but I felt better today and had a less baggy shirt.
Tom Demerly – are you out there? Can you help?

Dude, Thats an extra stoplight, hill and one less cup of coffee difference. Don’t sweat it. If the crank turns and the wheels turn without noticeable binding its not the bike.

hmmm…maybe they lubed the chain/bearings with a heavier weight. you might also ask them who took it out for a test ride. perhaps the harmonics of the frame adjusted to aligned with that (slower) rider
thats a classic sign that your bike is on its last leg. you need to go get a new one ASAP…do not wait…go now.
also, send me your old one. ![]()
Yep…one or two extra hills can easily explain that little difference, so can how you are feeling, fatigue, etc. I really wouldn’t worry over that…
they set the right wheel size in the computer…

Sniff…sniff…I smell a troll.
I beg your pardon. I’ve been taking my lessons from reading the front page to heart, and I can’t help but conclude that if you go faster or slower on different days it is caused by the equipment.
Actually, I think I may have discovered the problem. I forgot I told the bike shop to put on the tires favored for racing by Dr AC. Conti 2000s. Could that be the problem? ![]()
