anyone think there is a difference in how hot I would get with a black helmet as apposed to titanium or white?
I think they are about the same. I have a black road helmet now., silver aero helmet.
I think white road helmets look cool. Kind of like white bar tape or a white saddle.
Common sense says that a white helmet would be cooler. However the number and placements of air vents could also be a huge factor. Tim
I think someone did a study of this a while back, though I don’t have a link. The conclusion, from what I recall, was that there was absolutely no difference in head temp between a black and white helmet. The amount of styrofoam between the outer shell and your head is more than enough to block out any additional heat it might generate.
So let’s assume for a moment that you are buying a new ice chest, rather than a new helmet. Which one is going to keep your stuff cooler - the black one or the white one? The previous poster gets the parallel here - and the fact that with that layer of styrofoam between the outer shell and your head, it doesn’t matter whether it is stealth black or reflective aluminum in color. Go with whatever one you like best.
I’ve lived in AZ where in the summer it is not uncommon to start rides at 5;15am and have it already above 90. I’ve never noticed a difference with any color helmet, white, silver, black, dark grey etc.
