Congratulations Kevin.
Ironically, the thread referenced - “You know you’ve been in the sport a long time when …” - is among those which did not survive The Snap
You did answer well. Letting us know that unfortunately Kevin’s awesome addition will probably not have a positive effect in that particular instance.
All of us have always thought T100 was newsworthy.
The problem has always been with rights / assignment.
Kevin joining the team doesn’t fix the other side of that equation.
What happened to the 1st Amendment?
Nothing happened to the 1st amendment, as evidenced by the fact that every other media outlet has put on the grown-up hat on and has found a way to write about the T100. Maybe we should tell them they’re taking a massive risk
I do appreciate getting the awesome free venue for exchanging thoughts in this forum, for sure. One day there will also be a front page that covers the sport again!
If the NY Times wanted to cover t100 would they be forced to accept their policy? Would the Times do so?
Maybe if they wanted to be accredited. The controversial clauses that the management quoted in the previous life of this forum were from an accreditation agreement IIRC.
Apologies. Did not expect to divert thread (so much) from welcoming @ironmandad to the team. I supposed as ‘Senior Editor’ he might have influence to cover the increasingly important element of triathlon which is T100 and the PTO.
Kevin is one of the most respected “industry types” in the sport worldwide and if anyone can open any doors for ST it is him. The reality is that Slowtwitch does not have a great reputation among a lot of the folks who make the decisions outside of the US and Canada, some of whom are ex Pro athletes that have been targeted by the ST forum in the past.
The title of Senior Editor of Slowtwitch does nothing to enhance Kevin’s credibility in the Tri community as he is already “in” with those who matter,it is Slowtwitch that gained a little more credibility by having Kevin join the team.
Just my two cents worth and Kevin with tell you if that means anything.

Last post on this (for now):
It’s the agreement to be able to either have a credential -or- to use their media assets on the site.
We’ve had discussions with PTO/T100 on this and there’s exploration of changes. Maybe with the off-season it will come.
Kevin is a crucial add to our team. Very glad to have him here.
@Kevin McKinnon does not YET have an account from what I can see. @rrheisler and @E_DUB to my knowledge in 20 years I have seen almost zero posts in the forum by Kevin.
One of the great things here is we can interact with those who write on the front page, interact with tri industry, with race directors and fuel you guys with ideas.
So I would urge Kevin to participate in here. Historically he never did. Now speaking for others (and maybe I am overstepping), he and us would benefit from him chiming in here and participating in the community
He is @Ironmandad, Dev.
Give it time.
I really don’t understand why people care so much about ST covering T100 races.
Welcome Kevin. I can’t recall reading any of your articles, though I’m sure I have and not realized it was you. Your voice has always stuck out to me. I can’t remember where I have heard it but I always thought you were good at what you did.
I understand why they want us to cover it… We do a great job at covering stuff What I dont understand is why certain people who like the way we write on the home page continue to argue with us as to WHY we choose not to cover the series as other do. We have been clear and honest about why we currently choose not to do so. We welcome the day when we can agree to the terms and conditions and have it work out.
We had to do the same thing with Ironman for a while. At the end of the day we need to have certian media usage rights and not be bond by someone else telling us what to and what not to say.
Something to look at for 2025
Hey Dev,
Yep, you are 100% correct - I have never had a Slowtwitch Account until I joined the editorial team. I am looking forward to participating in the community, for sure. I am still getting my bearings on all my access and tech, so apologies for the delayed reply here.
I’m not going to comment further on the T100 stuff. I have had long conversations with Eric on all this and totally get Slowtwitch’s concerns. As Ryan pointed out, we’re hopeful that something can be figured out. I’ve worked with the PTO crew in the past, so if I can help with those negotiations, I certainly will.
I am really excited to be part of the Slowtwitch community and look forward to participating in it! I’ll look forward to catching up with you at a race sometime soon, Dev!
Hey, sorry for the delayed response here - been busy working on all my new Slowtwitch tech connectivity.
Thanks for the welcome! I really can’t comment much on the T100 stuff - I’ve had lots of conversations with Eric on all this and completely see where he is coming from. As Ryan pointed out, discussions are ongoing - hopefully stuff can get figured out before next season. I’ve worked with the PTO in a variety of capacities over the years, and if I can help with those discussions, I certainly will.
I’m excited to be joining the Slowtwitch community! Thanks again for the welcome.
Hey Nick,
Thanks so much for the kind words! I hope our paths cross again soon!
Kevin
Welcome Kevin! Look forward to your editorial contribution and excited for you joining the Slowtwitch team!!
Always love your views and takes on all things triathlon.
Candice
@Ironmandad (Kevin) !!! Awesome to have you participating. T100 or otherwise we don’t need commentary/position from you. I think we would love to have you on general discourse related to our sport. While I know you literally frmo 1985 and followed your contributions to sport, I think by engaging the rest of us get to know you, and there are a lot of smart people here who you can benefit from for your content.
