Hello, and tri wetsuits for really big clydes?

Hi there! I’m a new member as of today. I post at another forum on the web, but I’m looking for help, so I’m branching out.

Anyways, I completed 3 sprints this summer in Ohio before moving to Boston. I totally have been bitten by the bug. Problem is, out here, it’s either ocean swims or cold lakes in the fall, with most or all races requiring a wetsuit.

I’m a BIG dude (6’2", 320#, 54" Chest). I’m not terribly fast in the run (I’m actually quite slow), but I’m ok on the bike, and actually pretty decent in the water.

Has anyone here heard of tri suit companies that make them for larger guys? I’ve started contacting the companies one by one to find out if theyre looking into it, or if they know of anyone who does. I’ve been trying out some diving suits on behalf of wetsuitrentals.com, as theyre looking to carry the Akona series of suits. These are actually diving suits, but they seem to closely match the measurements and components of the tri suits.

Part of my issue in evaluating is that I’ve never used another suit, so I don’t know what I should really be looking for. The first of the two suits I’m trying was so bouyant that breaststroke was difficult to stay in the water well enough to make good progress in an ocean test. The other suit, while less bouyant (though i could still float just standing still) felt like extra weight I was carrying around when I was swimming. I was able to breaststroke with moderate to good success though.

I’d love to hear other thoughts!

Ben
