I just ordered a HED 3 and Renn Disk. I assume both use short stem tubes - correct?
Also, Is the only way to inflate them with the Silca disk head? Will a Jow Blow pump with a locking mechanism work? I’ve used a Silca disk head before and one needs to hold it on with one hand and pump with another - is there a better method?
Someone recently recommended I buy a crack pipe. Not sure if the reference was a reflection of my need to mellow out or not…lol. Think it’s a 90 degree bent adapter for inflating in tight spots. Yes the Renn uses regular tube stem length…not sure about the Hed (been forever since I owned my Specialized). Pretty sure it would bend the stem a bit too much to use a pump in the regular fashion without the adapter.
Don’t know about the Renn but you can use regular stem tubes on the H3 though you can also use long stem (up to at least 48mm, maybe more) if that’s what you have lying around. Definitely no need for valve extenders though. I have to use a crack pipe with my Blackburn pump but some pump heads can fit into the cutout of the wheel. Don’t know about Joe Blow.
I think it depends more on the tube than the wheel but I usually have to hold the crack pipe with one hand and pump with the other. Sometimes it will stay on by itself but usually not.
i have a nashbar floor pump and the head fits fine into the opening on my hed 3’s with standard length valve stems (tubulars. not sure if it’s any different with the clinchers).
They both use standard valves and while the HED 3 can be inflated by a regular floor pump the Renn needs a small head so most will need to purchase a 90 degree adapter (crack pipe).
