Hed Stinger V5.0 wheels

Just looked at the new Hed catalog. It seems that this year they are re-introducing the old Stingers with a new name (maybe a different hub). For $900 it might be a good alternative to 404.

Anybody rode the old Stinger ? Any comments on them ?

Does anybody know when they are supposed to be available ?

I have the Hed Stinger 90mm deep rear. it’s the most versatile wheel in my arsenal. Flat, straight up a mtn, rolling, twisty, tons of turns etc it’s a great wheel! I’ve ridden it on the same TT course as my disc and I have been +/- :20secs with it. Not a controlled comparison but neverless close. If I had to sell all my rear race wheels but one, I’d sell the Renn disc and Hed Jet and stick with the Stinger. In short the best $250 I spent on a race wheel.

I am not familiar with the old stinger. Was the rim surface also Carbon ? Did you need special brake pads ? How did it hold up over time ?
