Hed stinger 9 or h3 clincher with bonti tt tyre?

I’m thinking of getting the Stinger 9 FR front wheel, have the H3C with the Bonti tt-tyre which makes a very smooth transition to the rim, which frontwheel would be faster in lower wind angles at around 40 km/h?

Their isn’t a HED H3C clincher made, only tubular.

you must have meant no clincher stinger
.

You can use their yaw angle calculator to determine which wheel would be best suited in various conditions.

Hi, with “C” I meant clincher.

The H3C is actually the tubular and the H3 the clincher. I think the C is for carbon, since it’s full carbon whereas the clincher has the aluminum rim track.

hed’s own data shows the H3 being faster at very low yaw angles than the stinger 9, which makes sense as it is very narrow. tire selection will be critical there.

Up to about 6° the Stinger 9 is only a bit “slower”, and from there to abouit 19° it shows to bit faster, so would that make the Stinger 9 a better pick in “regular” wind situations?

The stinger would probably be faster overall. Unless you tend to do races with not much wind. Sprints tend to have very little wind due to the bike being earlier in the morning.

But then if it gets really windy the H3 would be faster again. shrug

Either way you will have a great wheel. I would skip the FR option on the stinger9 though unless you just like the idea of having the lightest hed you can have.

If you do go with the H3, make sure you’re using the narrow (19mm) aerowing TT tire, not the new version. The new version is too wide for the H3, and it messes with its aerodynamics.

I’m using the older model 19mm aerowing. Was the Hed 3 on Hed’s drag chart testet with the 19mm aerowing? Will the 19mm still being sold or discontinued?

FYI…Trisports is clearing out the HED stinger 9 FR at a ridiculous price…I think I am going tubular
.

The 19mm aerowing tire is no longer in production, so the only ones still available are what is left. Its been replaced by a tire that is wider (22mm) and doesn’t mate to the H3 well. Now the Hed C2 rims, it seats very nicely.

They have the 19’s on the trek website for 30 bucks right now. I just bought a few to stock up.

That is all there is, though. Once those are gone, that is it.
