Hed Jet 90 Questions

Hey there-

I’m thinking about getting a Hed Jet 90 rear clincher (to compliment a Hed Alps front) wheel.
For use at primarily hilly triathlons-Wildflower and Donner Lake.

I have convinced myself that it is conceptually very similar to the Zipp 808; in clincher, about the same weight and essentially same rim depth.
But a lot less $. Do you disagree?

Also, do you need an ultra-long stem in addition to valve extender? The longest stem tubes I know of are 80mm.

Or do you think this is the wrong approach in general-and I should stick with a 60mm rim?

Would love your thoughts

Thanks

I use HED Jet90’s for training. I raced a Jet90 front last year. This year its a BW100. My 90’s use an 80mm stem. The BW100 uses a 100mm stem.

Thanks for the stem sizes.
Do you notice a difference with the Blackwell? Is it lighter?

Thanks

I race with a Jet 90 clincher in the back and use a valve extender with the 80mm valve stem. Great wheel!!!

I use a standard stem with a 80mm extender.

I use a 90mm Jet rear for training (80mm stem on a regular stem)…works great. Unknown when comparing weight to Zipp…but I love the overall resiliency of the wheel to train and race. I now race on a BW Disk…so it’s hard to compare the two, but you’ll love the Jet 90.

youll be faster with a hed jet 90 up front

and a disc cover for your alps in the rear!

=)

Hey, guys, listen.

I’ve got a fever.
And the only prescription
is more disc covers!

I’ve not measured the weight, but I do like it better then the Jet90. It’s a fast wheel.

I raced and trained with a Jet 90 C2 last year and loved it. Wheel is still perfect. Used a 80mm tube and a valve extender.

Do you really think the wheel covers are that effective?
I did get a wheel cover for the alps rear.

I did get a wheel cover for the alps rear.

How does the wheel cover work on the Alps? Does it fit well?

I have the same set up you (will) have - an Alps front and rear + a Jet 90 rear. I’m thinking of getting a cover for rear Alps.

Dan

they produce less drag than a hed jet 90 does =)

I just received my new Jet 90 C2 front wheel (direct from HED) and it came with a valve extender long enough to use a standard tube.

thanks-good to know
.

If I had both, I’d get the wheelcover for the Jet 90.
This way you have less material (which is heavy) to cover.

BTW, wheelbuilder.com sells the CH Aero trimmed to size

oopps…use the standard valve with extender for the Jet 90
.

I don’t wheelbuilder can do a wheel cover for the 90–there’s a limit to how small they can make them.

I asked about that a while back…can do.

I didn’t pull the trigger since I decided to make something on my own

I have a wheel cover from Wheelbuilder for my rear Jet 90 that should be here tomorrow. I will take pictures this weekend assuming I have time.

Well my cover came in a day early, so I mounted it up and took some pictures. It fits pretty good, I am happy with it. I used electrical tape between the cover and the rim to smooth the transition as the cover had a few wavy spots. Now it is nice and smooth.
