Hed Hubs

I managed to ping a couple of spokes in a crit last week and am having trouble getting the cap off the end of the front hub to replace them. I’ve seen ones that just kind of flip off and others that screw off but can’t work this one out.

Anyone have any pointers? FYI, it’s a front hub on a pair of alps.

Thanks.

From an email exchange with Anne regarding the same issue, on the same wheel:

Anne,
Ok, thanks for the support.

One further question from my end…The spoke broke off inside the nipple
at the hub…how does the hub disassemble in order to put a new nipple in
when they replace the spoke? I’m looking at the hub and can’t see
anywhere for tools to unscrew the endcaps from the axle or any such
method…

Thanks, once again,
Brian

HI,

The hub end cap can just be opened with a thin piece of metal or you can put
a rod down the middle ( like a skewer ) and then hit it out… thanks anne

FWIW, I found the skewer technique preferable, and easier…and whatever you do…a screwdriver is NOT a “thin piece of metal”…the bike shop guy found that out the hard way after he lightly scratched the hub… :frowning:

I was thinking of getting a pair of Alps. Curious to know your thoughts?

Thanks. Mission accomplished.

I like the Alps very much. I train and race on them without issue. I highly recommend them as an all-around wheel.
