I have used both on a road bike and tri bike set up and now own two pairs of the HED’s. The HED’s are a little bit lighter but you get more adjustability with the HED’s and when used on a road bike, you want the pads as low as possible.
The Fliplite is what you want for a road bike. The C2 is much too tall. You don’t want the cups closer to the body. You want them as close to the BAR as possible.
He might mean closer horizontally since the C2 pads sit behind the base bar. I’m not familiar w/ the HED bars. But, I agree in the you want the cups as close to the bar as possible and the Syntace are probably some of the higher bars out there.
I have used lots of clip on bar sets over the year including the C2s and Heds. The Heds are hands-down the best clip on bars I’ve ever mounted on a bike. Adjustable, light, comfortable, available with a choice of bends… and sit about as low to the bar as is possible. The Hed armrests can be mounted in a rear position that is pretty far back, though admittedly not as far as the C2s. Gotta be careful with having pads too far back on a road bike…your knees will eventually start hitting the pads when you’re climbing out of the saddle.
Really if you want clip-ons, you want that new 3T set-up. I forget the name, but Dan has an article on the front page.
Yeah, but…I’ll never - ever not use my Rotundos. Round bars are all that is rightous and good in the world.
I’m not absolutely sold on clip ons, and the price of entrance for the HEDs is up there. My Tarmac will have to be it for the forseeable future due to budget restraints so I’m wondering if the effort may be worth it.
Edit to add. Is all this even worth the effort. Can I gain reasonable time vs. effort with clipons on a good roadie, if not, fark it, I was faster 27 years ago on a steel bike.
I initially balked at the entrance price of the Heds…but they really are that good…that much better than the rest. That’s chewing off a lot considering Profile T2+ and the like can be had for well under $100. I tried those. CRAP. Sorry Profile, but its true.
