HED Flip Lite

Anybody got one? I love the flip up armrests b/c this is gonna go on my road bike, but it looks almost “flimsy” - is it sturdy? Pretty pricey so I am curious.

Thanks for the info.

Very comfortable and secure. Things I have noticed.

  1. pads sit a bit higher and further back. ( changed from Oval A900)

I disagree with an earlier comment. I had these and was not satisfied. The carbon cups had excessive flex and would impact the base bar when I hit any sort of bump. They were probably broken. I recently swapped out for a 1 peice bar from Oval.

there was a run of super flexi cups, you might have gotten one of those… i sent mine back and got a new pair which are a lot less flexi. I liked mine, not that adjustable and probably better as a road bike clip on but obsessively engineered and very light. Not the plushest things in the world but for shorter races they are fast and light.

I have a set of circle arm cups that are super comfy and hold my arms almost perfectly.

I have said it before. I think they are the best clip on bar out there. I don’t know what the other person is saying that they don’t sit low, they are only 1cm above the top of my basebar, which is I think about the same as visiontech and much lower than syntace.

I think Tai got it right that these bars are very well engineered. Everything is very well thought out.

i love my pair!!! no issues at all, and super light. aluminum machined parts are very nice.

These are the bar of choice among the ITU circuit. I know of several athletes who bought a set of these rather than taking free bars. They are, I think, one of the best options out there for clip-ons. I have not used the Zipp or Bontrager versions, both of which also look to be strong contenders, though.

I have set of the Zipp Vuka clips on my training bike and they are much like the normal Vuka bar. Super comfy, super adjustable, and really stiff with no creaks or shimmys. For $20 more than the HED it was a no brainer.

I would say that these are most likely the best design for a clip on when used on a road bike. I did have them on my tri bike for a while and the only reason that I do not have them now is that I have the Easton Attack TT bars. When I had them on my tri bike I had them set up with the Easton Delta Base Bar and this was by far the lightest and best set up you could do. They are very low, light, well designed and just better than most out there.

I have had two versions an 05 generation and the 07 generation. Love them both I called hed about flexi cups and they sent me new ones out no questions.

As for weight you can beat them when i held the Vuka’s I was shocked at how heavy they were. the clip lites also give you back that tops position if you end up doing some climbing. They are great bars with a ton of adjustability.

Kevin

I love it when people get all jammed to hell and back about weight of components when they themselves are carryin around additional weight. I am sure the Vuka’s are a tad heavier, but I think you could probably lose that additional weight by taking a good crap in the morning.

I’ve tried both clip-ons and IMHO the Vuka’s are far more adjustable, far more comfortable, and far easier to deal with.

Purchased these about a month ago for my Soloist. Love them.

I’ve been using these for about a year and a half and love them. The original pads sucked, I hear they have redesigned them a bit. I bought some CeeGees pads since I’d been riding on CeeGees for about 15 years before. I’d recommend those for ANY aerobar.

As far as sturdiness there is no flex whatsoever in the cups when you are in the aero position. The cups are very adjustable in position, the bar is easy to adjust, strong and very light.

Had them for about a month now. Replaced the Vuka’s on my DA. I’ve found them to be very comfortable right out of the box, and they’ve provided all the adjustment I’ve needed.

I haven’t had any issues with sturdiness/durability, and they’ve been re-doing a lot of the roads I ride on here (ie. lots of bumps).

You replaced your Vuka’s with the HED’s. According to Macho Nacho the Vuka’s are better although we know he is wrong

How do you like your DA and do you have pictures of your set up with the HED bars.

That’s Mr. Macho NAcho to you…I never said the HED sucked, but rather the Vuka’s were better for me as I can seperate the pads quit e bit more. I have very broad shoulders so I need as much seperation as possible. I had a HED bar and I could not ge the pads far enough apart to be comfortable.

I have no doubt that the HED’s are nice, but for me, in my case, the Vuka clips and Vuka bar fit me better.

Yeah, I put the new HED basebar and carbon s-bends on there. Also replaced the DA, with the SRAM Force Grouppo. The VUKAs were nice bars, but I didn’t like how wide they were set and the HEDs are quite a bit lighter.

I’m loving the DA. I switched from a 2003 Cervelo P3, and although I really loved my Cervelo I’m very happy with the move.

I’m still working on getting everything built up, but I’ll post a few pictures when I finish it. Putting on the TT-Qrings this weekend, want to get a set of ZG brakes and need to clean up the routing/wiring on my PT. I know how picky people are here on ST, so I’m not posting it until I get it just how I want it

2 more quick additions: can you securely clamp to carbon and can you clamp to either sixe handlebar - 26 or 31 (or whatever the 2 basic sizes are…) Thanks
.

Whether or not they can be clamped to a carbon bar is up to the manufacturer of the carbon bar. For instance, Hed makes a carbon basebar that can be used with the fliplites, but I think it is Easton that says no clip ons should be used with their carbon bars.

They come in a 26.0 and 31.8 version. You have to choose when you order.

I used the heds on slc2’s according to zipp they are designed for clip ons.

as for the weight and adjustability the width is only limited by your bars if the “hump” is narrow then you are limited to where one can locate the clamps. I have used a ritchey bar in the past the was 46 ctc with more than enough mounting space for any width human.
