I ran the brake lines through my Hed bar. When using my old Campy casings, I found a lot of friction, which I thought was due to the tight turn of the cable after the guides that hold the casing up along the bottom of the bar. Nope. I switched to Shimano casing, and voila, much less friction. Hed uses Shimano cables, and I didn’t think it would matter. It does.
I am using Campag on my HED aerobar with no ill effects, shifting is as crisp as one would expect, as Mark said Campag use larger diamtere cables, and hence outer casing too. Are you talking about both the gear cables and the brakes? I am using Zero Gravity brakes, so am not 100% that Campag cables are used there. You would have to check with Tom D if that is the case.
I’m not so sure that the Campy casing is larger diameter. While I didn’t measure, they look smaller, and the Shimano’s outside diameter is definitely larger. As for the cable, the Shimano looks fatter (1.6 mm per the box).
I think that the Campy cable is as thick as the Shimano cable WITH a ferrule on the end. Campy does not use ends on the brakes at the lever nor the caliper, but does at your frame braze on.
