What’s the minimum size/weight/strength to handle an aero wheel like the HED ALPS (50 mm) or Zipp 404s (58 mm)? My wife is about 5’ 8", 125 lbs. She’s pretty strong on the bike, but I’m concerned about her ability to handle the occassional stiff crosswind on a high profile wheel. Maybe she’d be better off with the Zipp 303s (38 mm)? Anyone of this size have any experience with these wheels? Also, can anyone comment on the overall durability of these wheels? She’d like to use them for both training and racing.
My wife is 5’ 4" and weighs 121lbs - only racing 2 years and not yet confident on a bike. She handles 404s fine in the 20mph winds typical around here. No problems either from vehicle suck (when a bus etc goes by at 50mph a couple of metres away)
