Hed alps vs hed jet 60

are the alps worth the extra money? (i am cheap)

The Alps are slightly lighter and slightly more aero according to the Hed website. But probably not enough to make any real world performace difference.

It’s your $$ and your call.

One advantage if you go with Alps clinchers. The Alps has a 50mm rim which allows you to use 60mm tubes and you don’t need to mess with valve extenders. Makes life a little easier.

There is actually a significant difference in the two wheels. Much like many of the “aero” wheels out there, the Jet is basically a standard rim with an aerodynamic carbon section bonded to it. It adds some structural stiffness but it’s main purpose is aerodynamics. The Alps is different. It is made in the same way that the Hed 3 is made. It actually “IS” the Hed 3 but with standard bladed spokes replacing the three aerofoils. The rim has structural foam inside making it very stiff and very strong. It allows them to use a smaller spoke count while maintaining the strength. I’ve been riding them for a couple of years and they are fantastic and pretty much bombproof. I’ve ridden the Jets as well and they are very good at being aerodynamic but the Alps is just a higher caliber wheel that performs well in every type of riding.

Hope this helps.
