Just wondering what armrest pad/cup combination people use with their HED Aerobars? I’ve had mine for a while now but haven’t been riding with them (now have them on my new P3), and I don’t find the cups and pads that came with the bars very comfortable (the aluminium cups with the rubber style pads).
Does anyone have a combination that works well? I’d be very interested!
If you are using the stock cups, they are carbon fibre, not aluminum (not that it matters…).
When I first got them I rode a few times and while they weren’t bad, I figured something thicker would be better. I tried several combinations. The one that seemed to work best was a pair of the new F19 pads from profile (they fit great, no tweaking needed). When I say best, I mean best other than the stock HED ones. While the neoprene pads HED specs are pretty thin, they don’t compress much. The other pads I used all started out much thicker and cushier (not sure if that’s a word, if it isn’t, it should be…), but during a ride they compress down to almost nothing. My first race on the F19’s left my forearms bruised for a week. I’ve gone back to the stock neoprene, and am pretty content (and thusfar bruise free).
i’ve got the oval bars and had the same problem, i now using the cups and pads from a crashed profile carbon x, they aren’t as “containing” as the stock brakets and the pads are very comfy. these parts are available at a good tri shop…
