HED 3's in Hawaii

Not Kona, but Honolulu. Are they a good idea, bad idea, or does it matter? I am moving there in November, and am planning on purchasing some race wheels shortly before then. (On a side not, if anyone here has a house to rent in the area…)

What are you doing with the Hed 3’s? Most TT and tri bikes sport a disc on the back and Hed 3, Zipp, or other fast wheel on the front. If you are moving here you will get used to the wind and being blown around. Your Hed 3’s would be good conservative wheels for the islands. P-mail me or Tai when you get here. aolha G

H3s are fine, but you can pretty much run anything here on Oahu. It gets pretty windy sometimes but unless you are really light you should be able to handle the H3s or even a H3 disk combo no problem. Most of the courses are fairly flat as well so the extra weight of the H3s aren’t that big of a deal. Like gman said, send us a PM if you need anything.

Rode H3’s front and rear at Kona last year. H3 front was a mistake in that wind…no wonder I didn’t see too many others with them on the front.

another issue are the road conditions which are not the best on most parts of the island. i definitely wouldn’t use sissy wheels like lightweights on those roads.
also there are a lot of roads with a very narrow shoulder (or no shoulder at all). if the wind blows you just 20 inches to the wrong side you will need new wheels anyway …

at least there is no cross wind in the pali tunnels
