Not sure about the “why”. But they weighed about the same as a regular HED3 and just as stiff, very durable (can’t dent it like other discs). John Cobb was quoted as saying that they were faster then the flat diisc, including Zipp, and the Mavic Comete. This was back pre -dimple!! : )
HED stopped making them as the discs were difficult to make and the number of discs passing the “testing” was very low. Not many of them made it out of the factory. The cost of making them was quite high.
