I was out riding today and got some jeers/heckling from the “Occupy New London” group. That was funny in and of itself, but I was wondering what experiences other people have had with protesters, or otherwise sketchy people yelling things like “Go Lance” from their rusted Huffy that’s 4 sizes too small.
i ride alot in the mountains here in Georgia during the summers. had a truck full of hilbillies come by and tell me i had “purtty laygs”… i was terrfied… do i hear banjos?
The occupy austin folks have been cheering cyclists (well, ok, they cheered me and the group I was with).
You live in New London CT?
Here in Southern California, anyone not driving a car is pretty bike friendly.
The closest I’ve ever come to having any sort of trouble with anyone is being asked for money when I’m stopped at a light.
I go to school here, so sort of.
the Hartford Half Marathon ran right past the Occupy Hartford site. I think there were 5 people with signs. They were pretty polite. Which is good, because if they had heckled…well, my response would have been more appropriate for the lavendar room.

There are group of people protesting Wall Street in most of the major cities in the US been going on for about 2 weeks or so now. A lot rich getting richer, poor getting poorer type stuff
Sydney is being occupied right now. Donate beer. They are thirsty.
I live in a Dallas suburb called Garland, ancient Greek for “What a shit hole!”, and not owning a car here is dangerous and really pisses everyone off so I get, “Get a car!” at least 3 times a day.

Somehow I see this thread spiraling out of control quickly into a political discussion. And rather strong opinions from rather strong personalities cannot be a good thing.
I for one get more than my fair share of that bull$hit from our hyper-sensationalized news media and hope that ST can remain above the fray.

I occupy my house. And my office. There’s enough issues going on in just those two places to keep me busy.
I just asked the guy where he went to school.
I’m a senior at the academy. I swim at our pool here, working around the swim team and water polo practices as much as I can. When the swim team is out of season, they are generally nice enough to let me hop in a lane with girls, freshmen, and breaststrokers during captains’ practices.
A friend and I plan to Occupy Bald Head Island (OBHI). We intend to bunk down in the main clubhouse. Excellent running opportunities, not to mention the OWS (intended). If you are interested, come on down. Bring mountain or cross bikes and beer.
