Heavy QR Redstone

Hi, I’ve been thinking of buying a new tri bike - I’ve currently got a Redstone from the late 90’s, size 57 on 650 wheels and running shimano 600. My local bike shop weighed it at just over 10kg - I knew it was a bit heavy but it’s quite a bit more than my road bike (and I’m rubbish at climbing!).

Anyway, I was just wondering if there is any merit in buying some lightweight stuff for the Redstone - I love the position, or whether I should retire it and buy a Cervelo or Guru? Be pleased to hear your opinions - I’d love to save a couple of kilos off the weight but maybe the frame is just too heavy?

Thanks.

i will be interested to read, once you get your new bike, which you think in retrospect was the faster of the two.

Were Redstones ONLY made in 57 size? Seems every one I’ve seen is that same size…

Very interesting frame design, well ahead of its time.

Haven’t committed to getting a new bike yet! But the Redstone is certainly more comfortable (and therefore quicker?) than my full carbon Giant - great for road racing but not so great with tri bars, just not steep enough and not designed for it I guess.

Any idea how the Redstone frame weight compares to current stuff?

no, they were made all the way up and down the size range.
