Heat & humidity

I moved from Honolulu to Key West at the end of June. My run pace has gone from an avg of 6:45 to a 7 min pace, from 5k to 15k distances since moving here. I’ve been maintaining the same volume. Is this really due to the heat & humidity?

easily… i notice it a lot now as the temps in my area are coming out of the 90’s + 40-60% humidity to 75-85 +20-30% humidity… my run pace went from like 7:50 now to like 7:20 cruise. Granted there are other factors, but 15 sec/mile can easily be blamed on heat and humidity. HTFU

Easy. We used to live in Tampa and the first time we went to Key West I got off the plane and said – it’s really humid here. Someone living in Tampa can tell an increase in humidity in Key West? Yep. Don’t miss Sexual Fantasy Weekend. If memory serves correctly it is coming up in October. Worth seeing at least once for the weird factor if nothing else.

I think H+H affect people differently. I live in Chicago, where it can get pretty sticky in the summer, but probably nowhere near as uncomfortable as Hawaii or Florida. I find that I actaully ride faster when it’s sweltering 90+ and absolutely soupy. In cool, comfortable weather I’m pi$$ slow. This summer it’s been quite mild, gorgeous actually, with good sleeping weather, so, well, you now know how I’ve been riding lately!
