Heat an humidity

a serious question. here on the east coast its been blazing hot with heat index over 100 for weeks. Are there any guidlines as to how much you should cut back on mileage etc ,but still get the needed fitness benifits. I rode 3+ hours yesterday felt like crap all day after the ride and still feel like crap today. I try to get out as early as possible, but you can only do what you can do.

you don’t necessarily back off on mileage but dial down your effort (stick with HR instead of pace), start early, finish early, take in sports drinks all day long, get your sleep. Cut back on mileage if you are seeing more fatigue. Err on the side of caution, the heat wave will break soon.

Get acclimated. I drive home every day with the AC turned off - then run in the heat. It use to kill me but I can run in an oven now. It was 101 and humid in Atlanta yesterday when I ran 10 miles (no shade). Wasn’t fun, but I dig the abuse.

Also remember to drink plenty of liquids - when I live in GA I found that I needed to watch that
.

Been finding the heat/humidity challenging also. I went out to do 10 miles yesterday but could only muster 5. Some days I have pushed through, but it is really uncomfortable and my HR is very high. Funny thing is, I only seem to have heat/humidity issues when running. Biking, no problem.

BeeHunter is on target.

maybe dial the intensity down a bit but keep it going. train through the same conditions you will deal with at races. hydration is a critical factor in those conditions. adapting is one of the great training tools to embrace.
