Heart Rate 240

Lots of HRMs have a max reading around 240 (not sure why this is)…

Most heart rate monitors will suffer from electrical interference when near power lines, other heart rate monitors, power lines, electric motors, power lines, etc. etc.

The number 240 is a good thing. Since 99.999% of the population will never have a heart rate reading that high, its a good fail safe number. It is better than 0, how many would ask on ST, did my heart really stop during my training?

Mine always jump to 240 when the batteries are dying. have you swapped them out?
the watch is new. I will try and get some more data and check for powerlines in those areas.

Thanks for all your help guys

I wear a Garmin 405 and have experienced this many times before getting warmed up. If you do a search here on ST, you will see this question comes up quite often. In virtually every post, the momentary HR spike is reported in the first few minutes of the bike ride while one’s body is still dry and the strap connection/contact is not accurate.

hmmmm, it wasn;t momentary though, it hovered around there for approx 1 minute
.

IF/when your HR goes into that range, you WILL Definitely feel it. You will feel your heart pounding in your chest and it will not feel like a “normal” high heart rate. IT is even easier to notice this when your respiratory rate is not commensurately elevated.

I’ve had a few A-tach episodes in the past 2 years, and you can DEFINITELY Feel it. If you felt nothing…I’d suspect your electronics.
