As usuall the kids go off to school and bring home every disease. Today my daughter comes home early with a sore throat and a temp. The other two have sniffles and sneezes. I’m ok at this point but do feel a little acidy when climbing stairs. With the big event a little over 3 days away, what should I do? I have a 25 mile ride for today and a short swim bike run for Thursday. I know these workouts are to keep you sharp but do little else for you. Should I bag them all and rest until Sunday or do as planned and what concotions should I take to help the imune system.
The shorter workouts aren’t likely to depress your immune system enough to warrant bagging them.
You could try ecanacia (sp?), vit c, etc, not sure if they really help, but probably won’t hurt.
Hygiene is key - wash your hands a lot and avoid touching your eyes/face. Also try to get lots of fresh air to minimize exposure.
Joel
All what Joel said and on top of that wear a surgical mask while at home. Your kids think you’re a geek anyway, so this won’t hurt your image ![]()
And whatever you do, don’t touch the children!
You can touch them… but wash your hands afterwards
Also another good habit to have is to not touch your face, namely your mouth, nose and eyes, with your hands.
Don’t use echinacea, it works by challenging the immune-system on several levels. If your immunsystem is already battling germ-attacks you challenging it even more will surely not improve your chance to win the battle.
Well, if you eat well enough (with all the daily vitamins values bla bla) you should be just fine.
Quarantine the kids till sunday…
send them away… leave them at the zoo! hehhe
OK, so I just got done with the 22 mile ride, I normally go straight past an intersection and come back that way, this time I go right instead, there where I would have been is a high speed woman, not even close to slowing down at all for the intersection and stop sign. I got a good look at her and she was way out on cloud nine. I work by a hospital and they had a code blue come in this morning, perhaps this was a wife/mom/daughter whatever. Here I was worried about a silly cold, and now I’m thanking the good Lord for sending me backwards around the usuall route.
Take zinc lozenges. If you start taking them as soon as you start feeling the slightest symptom of a cold, they do pretty well to reduce both the severity of the cold symptoms and the duration of the cold. If you wait until you really feel like you have a cold, they won’t be nearly as effective. I think the box says to only take 4 a day, but I generally take more than that (probably 6-8). Cold-Eeze is the big name brand, but I prefer the CVS brand - cheaper, tastier, and just as effective.
