Hello All:
Two themes that often emerge here on ST are healthy active aging and DIY modifications to bikes and other exercise equipment. In addition to following ST, I also visit a forum focused on masters track and field. On that site was a link to a video that I found really fascinating and it really features these two aspects. I reckon many of you will find it interesting and hopefully it will stimulate discussion on active aging and DIY topics. Here is the article with video: http://masterstrack.com/2011/09/20139/
Cheers,
Jim
that’s astonishing… I can’t imagine pole-vaulting at 67, hope to still be walking at that point… maybe I’ll be making my own racing crutches out of carbon fiber ![]()
Very inspiring…I am 47 and have had my troubles with injuries the last few years and just want to race well again. See Joe (who did it hisself) helps me to know I can get back…as an aside I have a friend who just competed in the World Championships in Triathlon in China, he is in his late 50s and has never been faster.
That is very inspiring. I am not nearly that old, but my motto is to improve every year.
Thanks for posting that.
Not having any desire to join a gym any more, I’ve learned to improvise many exercises putting thera-bands around furniture, ceiling joists, etc, but I’ve got nothing on Joe. Very impressive little custom workout area he has designed and built there, not to mention the shape he is in for his age. Very inspiring.
Just watch him twirl around that bar, my hands and wrists felt like they’d blow up. This guy is amazing. As much as the ST mob hate resistance training, I see a big place for resistance and plyometrics in healthy aging and keeping strength and agility through a wide range of motion.

Very well said!
