When riding today, I thought I kicked up a rock, but I may have lost a part of my headset. I also may be going crazy. Does anybody know if there is a part that goes in the middle of my Reynolds Ouzo headset? It is a Tom D bike, and I am sure he will know, but I don’t want to haul it over to Bikesport if I do not have to.
Yes…and no…a rubber gasket at best, that would only cover a bolt
.
So you think a gasket goes in there?

It’s not really a Reynold’s headset. You have a Reynolds expansion adjuster plug for your carbon reynolds fork.
It doesn’t look like you’re missing anything. Within the plug there is a 5mm and an 6 mm in the Cap. The 5 mm expands the plug (i.e. acts like the star nut). The 6 mm cap is what gives you the compression with the stem and bearings.
If any of these were missing you would have had a serious problem on your hands.
I would re-check that everything is tight. Loosen the two bolts on your stem first. Then check 5 mm and then the cap. There shouldn’t be any play in your headset.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Thank you. That was the conclusion I came to also after reviewing Reynold’s website. I thought I may have lost a gasket or something b/c the cap was a little loose. I will loosen the bolts on the stem, then tighten the inner (5mm) and outer cap (6mm).
Slowtwitch is great.
