Headset Height

After this season is over I’m thinking about revamping my position. I hope to get lower in frontthan my CarbonX’s with arm rests on the base bars will allow. I think that my headset might be a good place to start since I like my bars. Right now I have a FSA Orbit X which adds a fair amount of height. Do some headsets have less stack, and if so, which is the lowest?

Perhaps you can share your current frame and model year so we know what we have to work with…

“Lowest” I use is a CC IS with a short cap…

2002 Yaqui Aerolite. 1" standard threadless steerer.

Ritchey WCS threadless will lower you about 8 mm from that. I think King and Race Face also have headsets within 1mm of the WCS short stack height, you could also “face” about 2 mm from the bottom of the stem, or even remove some material from the top of the head tube by facing it as well.

Check with VES, he may be able to help you find and machine what you need/can.

Good Luck.

The results of my research:

FSA Orbit X: 31.4mm total stack height

King No Threadset: 28mm

Ritchey WCS Logic: 28mm

Race Face Deus: Not Listed. Only comes in 1 1/8".

Cane Creek C4: 26.5mm

Anybody know of a 1" headset that has less than 26.5mm of stack?

Campagnolo lists their Record threadless at 24.5mm… I think that is about a short has you will find.
