I am headed to Penticton to register for IMC this weekend…
Long story, I only have a Aussie Passport… I was born in Sydney, one parent is an Aus citizen, the other from the US.
Apparently I can obtain a US Passport, but, it is a little late for that now.
After reading the Phillipines/Manila thread I’m actually a little concerned about traveling across the border…
I was planning on bringing my Au passport, birth certificate(s) - I have two, one issued by the Dept of State showing I was born in Sydney and the Aussie document, plus my Washington State issued ID.
Am I going to get stuck in the Great White North ?
I would not show them the Aussia passport, it is not relevant and it might just confuse the situation. US Customs really does not seem to like “unusual” people crossing the border these days. What is the Washington State ID, a drivers licence? All you need is valid ID with a photo, so I would just show them your US drivers licence and only provide more details on citizenship if you are specifically asked.
And if they won’t let you back in, hey its nice up here.
Well, we got married (I’m American) back in 1999 and went through a two-year process of filling out forms, paying fees, waiting, waiting some more, and finally after waiting two years and wanting to be able to get my wife a driver’s license and insurance (she needed a green card/social security number for those things), I called my local congressman and complained, and within 2 weeks we had an interview with the INS, and she had her green card a week later.
I went to the race from the U.S. last year on an Aussie passport (with a greencard). If you don’t have a greencard they will ask to see a return ticket to Australia before they will let you in (they want to make sure you are leaving). I had some confusion last year as they didn’t ask me for my greencard and they wouldn’t let me in on passport alone, they took me off into a little room and questioned me until i showed them my greencard, they then apologized and let me in.
