I will be in Ithaca, NY for a few days and wanted to get in at least one open water swim. I was wondering if there were any organized open water swims I could join. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

Bump for the eastcoast afterwork crowd.
Also, what was up with people throwing water at Lance during the tour? I am not sure he really appreciated that.
I thought there might be something on the site below, but no open water swims mentioned. Perhaps an email to one of the people in that club?
I don’t know about OWS in Ithaca, but the road riding is so good there I wouldn’t even care it. That and the Hot Truck. mmmmmmmmmm!
Thanks
And yes I hear the road riding is great, but I don’t think I can get away with taking a nice 3 hour ride. I think I will only have time for a short run or two and one decent swim.
I believe there’s a masters group that swims (inside, pool) at Teagle Hall on the Cornell campus on weekdays about 12:15 pm. In the summer, they’ll sometimes do open water swims across Cayuga Lake (one way about 2000 yards) from someone’s house with boat support. Best way to find out for sure might be to drop by the pool during a workout.
You could drive up to Taugonach (I really butchered that i know) Falls park, it’s where they have the Cayuga Tri. I think they have a beach there.
Could also try the base of Ithaca Falls near Gun Hill. There’s a quarry that might be as big as a 25 M pool. Probably not good for actual training but it’s great after a hard run.
If you’re going by yourself, you don’t need to drive all the way up to Taughanook Falls (although it is quite a sight). You can just jump in the lake down by Stewart Park (I think that’s what it’s called) or anywhere past the boat channel. I don’t think I’d swim that section.
