Hawaiian Airlines lost my bike ... now what?

Flew from Kauai to Seattle via Honolulu yesterday, landed at Seatac at 10 pm, when to the bagagge claim, got 2 bags, when to the oversize bagagge claim and waited (2 hours) … no bike. My beloved Cinelli mountain bike & and all my gear might still be in Hawaii for all I know. I’ve filed a claim w/ Hawaiian at the airport last night, but I don’t know what else to do. Seriously, what are the chances of getting my bike back ???

Generally, they end up finding stuff a day or two later and forward it on to you. I wouldn’t freak about it just yet. I travelled constantly for 12 years as a pro athlete and had my bags lost several times, but always got them back.

"Seriously, what are the chances of getting my bike back "

Excellent.

I know absolutely nothing about this subject I am just guessing.

But I would assume it has a decent chance of turning up eventually. Afterall, the airlines probably only have a couple thousand unclaimed bike boxes laying around in their terminals, as opposed to the several million pieces of identical-looking luggage.

good chance of being found. Not necessarily a good chance of being found within a day but a good chance within a week.

It stinks but it happens unfortunately. I almost always just carry on but I did take a bike this summer to NZ and I was terrified of losing it!

They did that to me too. I waited, waited, no bike, and started to freak out. I told them I was there 2 hours early and that the bike was on the plane… they said no. I said go look again. ooooooohhh, yeah it was right there still on the plane and we missed it. (Only a huge Velo Safe with stickers all over it). Uggggh.

Well, I asked them to check the plane again last night, they did, told me we got it …and then they asked what color is the box, I said it’s black, they had a white bike box left in a container …seems I’m not the only one who has lost a bike. Apparently my bike never made it on the plane, so it’s either still in Lihu’e Airport, Kauai or in Honolulu. I already started to freak out…
