Worked with or read Mark Evans books. I know I already asked this question once but I thought I’d give it another try. I am looking for a new coach and he is near me for some of the year so it would be nice to be able to train in person sometimes. I am just looking for your experiances because I already made the mistake of hiring a guy off the internet w/ no recomendations once. Important to me in a coach is not only the workouts but also commuincation. I appreciate any insight you have to offer.
i have his book but i wouldn’t say i read it. i’ve skimmed it. it’s got a lot of great information and it’s obvious he knows his stuff. however, it’s way too complicated in my opinon. i much prefer gordo’s going long which is simple and easy to put into action.
that said, if i lived in ca, i would love to try that underwater videotaping in his endless swimming pool thing.
I haven’t done anything w/ him, don’t know him, but if you’re close to him, it seems pretty easy to figure out if you like him. I saw his website, and it seems like he has a lot to offer. Personal experiences from other people don’t really matter, b/c training philosophies and how you react to instruction vary so much. I wouldn’t work w/ tons of great coaches just because I have opinions on how I want to train that might not match up, not b/c they aren’t great coaches. If you live close to Mark, set up a 2 hour meeting or something. Bring in your ideas, your schedule, goals etc… and also just listen to him. That’s gonna be much more helpful than just hearing others opinions.
If you get regular meetings and access to his facilities often, it is nice to have a local coach, one who you can put a face w/ a voice or e-mail. But I think meeting with the coach is gonna be a great way to see if he’s right for you.
